Ski and Snowboarding Information for Mad River Glen, USA

Located south of Burlington in central Vermont, Mad River Glen ski resort offers diverse terrain and some tough skiing for all levels. Unfortunately, snowboarders were banned in the 1994/95 season and that continues today; however, Mad River’s neighbour, Sugarbush, has plenty of terrain slopes for boarders.

Mad River Glen is served by the nearby towns of Waitsfield and Warren, which offer all the amenities and facilities required, such as ski and rental shops, ski school programs, and plenty of shopping. Accommodation is in country inns, family townhouses, bed-and-breakfasts and lodges.

Mad River Glen’s slopes run over a 620-metre vertical and are divided into 20 per cent for beginners, 35 per cent for intermediates and 45 per cent for advanced and expert skiers; all slopes have a fairly difficult rating. The longest run is a respectable four kilometres and five lift systems provide access to the slopes. Additionally, there are 88kms of groomed cross-country trails.

Other winter activities and facilities at Mad River Glen ski resort include: sleigh riding, skijoring, (being pulled behind a horse while on skis), and ice-skating. Spa facilities at the Alta Day Spa in Warren provide massages, exfoliations, wraps, masques and facials. You’ll also find a mixture of fast-food cafés and fine restaurants and bars, many with live music.

The Mad River Glen season has its best snow in February and cheaper rates pre-Christmas holidays. Kids under six and seniors over 69 ski for free. The most practical travel option for getting to Mad River Glen ski resort is to take a flight to Burlington International Airport and complete the journey by shuttle bus or hire car.
