Mammoth Mountain ski resort offers an abundance of snow and sunshine and a huge ski area, as well as excellent facilities. There are more than 150 trails at Mammoth that are available to snowboarders, who also have three unbound terrain parks, three half-pipes, a quarter-pipe and a jib park. The ski and snowboard school is excellent.
Hotels and condos are available at the resort village; while the town of Mammoth Lakes has a wide range of lodgings in all categories, including chalets, cabins, condos and private home rentals. Mammoth Lakes also has the bulk of the services and facilities, and there is a range of shops and a ski school at the resort.
Mammoth Mountain offers brilliant on- and off-piste skiing and boarding for all levels, and its 150-plus ski trails are divided into 25 per cent for beginners, 40 per cent for intermediates, 20 per cent for advanced sliders and 15 per cent for experts. The longest slope is five kilometres, and 28 lifts provide access. In addition, there are three terrain parks and half-pipes, along with 45kms of groomed cross-country tracks.
Other winter activities and facilities at Mammoth Mountain resort include: snowshoeing, snowmobiling, tobogganing, hiking, sleigh riding and bobsledding. Mammoth Lakes also boasts 45 restaurants and numerous bars and nightclubs.
The ski season at Mammoth Mountain usually runs from November to June and has its best natural conditions in January/February. Visitors from overseas should opt to fly into Reno-Tahoe International Airport and transfer to Mammoth by shuttle bus or hire car.
