Mont Avila ski resort is nestled in the beautiful Saint-Sauveur Valley, just to the northwest of Montréal, and is well known for its spectacular snowboard park, one of Québec’s finest. The 11 fantastic pistes of all difficulties are the main attraction, and the guaranteed artificial snow ensures great sliding.
Facilities at Mont Avila are limited to ski sport and repair shops and a ski school, but it does boast a first rate spa/inn with full spa facilities, well decked-out rooms and a fine restaurant. The century-old village of Saint-Sauveur has all the essential services and facilities of a small town and plenty of accommodation.
The 11 runs at Mont Avila are divided into two beginner slopes, three intermediate and six for advanced and expert snowboarders and skiers. The longest run is one kilometre and all slopes are fed by a system of three lifts, with a capacity to carry 5,000 people per hour. Additionally, there are 20kms of cross-country trails.
The giant snowpark is very popular at Mont Avila and has an Olympic-size half-pipe. Other non-skiing activities and facilities here include: 15 snow tube slides (five for children and 10 for adults); snow rafting; ice-skating; snowshoeing; and a sugar shack. The resort spa has a commendable restaurant; while Saint-Sauveur provides the après-ski entertainment.
The mid-December to mid-April ski season at Mont Avila ski resort has guaranteed snow throughout the season and best natural conditions during February. The most practical travel method is to fly to Montréal and transfer by ski bus to the resort. Car hire offers the quickest transfer option due to the straightforward road network from the airport.
