Mount Rose is a quiet, crowd-free ski resort which lies 35kms from downtown Reno and is a 25-minute drive from Reno-Tahoe International Airport. It offers skiing and snowboarding for all levels and, as Tahoe's highest base ski resort, has stunning views of Lake Tahoe.
The resort is a cosy, family-friendly place with the proud reputation of maintaining the most ideal snow conditions in Lake Tahoe. There is no shortage of accommodation choices in Reno, with nearby Incline Village providing hotels and other lodgings as well.
Of the resort’s 60 ski runs, 20 per cent are beginner, 30 per cent are intermediate, 40 per cent are advanced, and 10 per cent are expert. There is a longest run of four kilometres, and the seven lifts in operation can carry 13,400 skiers an hour. For those wanting thrills and spills, the two terrain parks offer sufficient skiing and boarding challenges.
Reno offers a variety of non-slope orientated activities, including: boating, scuba diving, hiking, cycling, golf, tennis and snowmobiling. The obvious choice for après-ski is the casinos, but non-gamblers can check out the variety of restaurants, bars and nightclubs.
Mount Rose’s ski season begins mid-December and runs until mid-March. With a seasonal average of 10.16m of snow, good ski conditions are almost guaranteed. Flying to Reno-Tahoe International Airport is the easiest way to reach Reno, which is the most convenient place for accommodation. Many hotels will provide shuttles to the Mount Rose slopes; visitors are advised to check at the time of booking. Alternatively, for convenience, you may wish to hire a car.
