Murren ski resort is connected with the ski resorts of the Jungfrau region that lie directly below the world-famous backdrop of the Eiger, the Monch and the Jungfrau. Nestled at the foot of the Schilthorn, with its revolving Piz Gloria Restaurant, Murren features 53kms of slopes ranging from tame beginner and family slopes to tough black expert runs, ideal for snowboarders.
With the distinction of being the highest altitude resort of the Bernese Oberland and overlooking three famous mountains, Murren is a typically Swiss mountain village with magnificent views, picture-postcard chalets and no cars, making it one of the great Alpine spots. There are 2,000 hotel, chalet and apartment beds on offer.
Murren ski resort has 53kms of its own pisted and off-piste runs, suited to 30 per cent, beginner; 50 per cent, intermediate; and 20 per cent for advanced skiers. There are 32 slopes in all, a longest run of 16kms (in the region); 15 ski lifts have a capacity of over 9,000 people per hour. In addition, there are 16kms of cross-country trails.
For après-ski activities and facilities, and for those who prefer not to ski, there is: snowboarding, featuring a terrain park with a half-pipe; an outdoor artificial ice rink with curling and skating; and horse-drawn sleigh riding. There is also indoor swimming; a fitness suite; and a multi-purpose sports hall. Nightlife centres around the larger hotels and there is also a handful of bars and discos.
The December to April ski season at Murren ski resort has great snow in February and cheaper rates pre-Christmas holidays, in mid-January, and towards the end of the season.
Murren ski resort is within range of four international airports and the most practical means of arrival and departure is to fly to Zürich and transfer by train, or for convenience and speed, hire a car.
