Ski and Snowboarding Information for Oberstdorf, Germany

Oberstdorf ski resort is a combination of three individual ski areas - Nebelhorn, Söllereck and Fellhorn-Kanzelwand, and is one of the most extensive and challenging ski areas in Germany, with fantastic intermediate runs. Located in between Münich and Lake Constance, Oberstdorf is recommended for those who prefer a quieter après-ski.

Oberstdorf is a small, picturesque Alpine village with excellent shopping and facilities and has the added attraction of a semi-pedestrianised centre. The range of accommodation is varied enough to match all tastes and pockets, with a total of 18,000 beds available.

Its 38 groomed slopes over 44kms are divided into 26 per cent beginner runs; 64 per cent, intermediate; and 10 per cent for advanced skiers. The longest run is 7.5kms and there are 26 ski lifts able to lift 31,000 people per hour. In addition, Oberstdorf ski resort has 70kms of cross-country tracks, including high altitude ones for beginners. For boarders there's a carving track, halfpipe and a funpark.

Other winter activities and facilities include: tobogganing; hiking; ice skating; curling; horse-drawn sleigh rides; paragliding; indoor swimming and tennis, among other activities. There are also saunas, a solarium and a fitness centre. Après-ski is varied and laid-back, with many cafés and restaurants and bars and discos.

The best snow can usually be had from February to mid-March and cheap rates are offered in January.

The most convenient way to get to Oberstdorf ski resort is to fly to Münich and hire a car. There is a rail terminal at the airport and in Oberstdorf, but train travel involves three or four connections. Friedrichshafen and Innsbruck airports are other alternatives.
