Totally integrated into the natural surroundings of the Andorran Pyrenees, the Ordino-Arcalis ski resort covers a huge ski area between altitudes of 1,940 and 2,620 metres. Its orientation and geographical location guarantees quality and quantity of snow throughout the entire season.
Historic Ordino is the main resort town providing ample opportunity to buy Andorra's famed duty-free goods. There are a variety of accommodation options in this charming village and a number of cafés and restaurants. If you want to stay closer to the resort, the smaller village of El Serrat is only four kilometres from the slopes.
Ordino-Arcalis has 24kms of manicured slopes with a longest single run of two kilometres. Areas of difficulty are divided into 25 per cent for beginners; 29 per cent, intermediate; 34 per cent, advanced; and eight per cent, expert. The other four per cent is reserved for slalom runs. There are also 12kms of cross-country trails.
Other winter activities in the Ordino-Arcalis ski resort include: snowboarding, mono-skiing and heli-skiing. There are a number of cafés and café-bars from where to enjoy après-ski and nightly entertainment. For more nightlife, head into nearby La Vella with its pumping bars and discos.
The best snow is usually from early February to mid-March and the cheapest rates are offered at the start and end of the season and after New Year celebrations.
Many people prefer to drive to the Andorran ski resorts as public transport involves numerous connections. However, if you're coming from afar, the best option is to fly to Toulouse or Barcelona airports and take a bus, or hire a car.
