With the towering peaks of Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa and the Matterhorn in full view, Pila is an excellent ski resort with a great range of slopes for skiing and snowboarding. The 70kms of pistes are ideally suited to intermediates, and there is an excellent snow park for boarders.
A traditional Alpine town, yet a modern resort, Pila has a wide range of facilities and features ski-in/ski-out accessibility. Hotels, chalets and residences offer 2,500 beds in usually convenient locations. For additional accommodation options, Aosta has a further 2,000 beds.
Pila’s 70kms of pistes are divided into 17 per cent for beginners, 73 per cent for intermediates and 10 per cent for experts. Twelve modern lift systems can carry up to 18,900 snowboarders and skiers per hour across a vertical of 1,000m to all pistes. The longest slope in the area is six kilometres and, in addition, Pila has a snow park with a massive half-pipe.
Other winter activities and facilities at Pila ski resort include: a timed slalom course, ice-skating, indoor swimming, bowling and hang-gliding. There is also a sauna and a well-equipped sports centre here. Nearby Aosta has a greater choice of activities. Après-ski features 22 restaurants (on and off the mountain) and four discos; additionally, there is a casino at St Vincent.
The December to April ski season has its best snow conditions in February and cheaper weeks at the beginning and towards the end of the season. The most practical option for getting to Pila ski resort is to fly to either Turin or Milan and catch a bus, or train and bus combination, via Aosta. For added convenience, travel by hire car.
