Ski and Snowboarding Information for Salen, Sweden

Salen is made up of four ski areas and is the largest ski domain in the whole of Scandinavia. It has an enormous cross-country ski area, plus 160 groomed slopes, and attracts families and beginners from all over.

The resort sits at an elevation of 600m, and is host to a range of family-friendly accommodation options and non-ski activities. The only resort in the world to have a ski-through McDonald's, Salen has one ski school at each of the four centres; it remains a favourite with beginners and families alike.

There are 160 well groomed downhill runs at the resort, adding up to 145kms of slopes. The runs favour beginners and intermediates, with 60 green runs, 31 blue runs, 31 red and 31 black. Experts and advanced skiers can also find some impressive off-piste, while Salen also has a huge 300kms of additional cross-country trails. There are half-pipes and jumps at the resort, plus 100 ski lifts with a top elevation of 890m and a total vertical descent of 290m. All four centres at the resort offer commendable ski schools for adults and children.

There are around 40 restaurants in Salen, supplying everything from traditional Swedish food to American and European cuisine. The après-ski isn't very lively here, although there are 10 nightclubs offering some respite off the slopes. Non-ski activities include: dog-sledding and horse-drawn sleigh rides; snowmobile tours; snow-scooter safari tours; ice-carting; and paragliding. There is also a pool and gym at the resort, ensuring you stay trim for the slopes.

The season runs from mid-November to the end of April, with consistently good conditions throughout the season supported by a range of snow cannons.

Salen is 400kms from the closest international airport in Stockholm. Mora's airport, which can be reached by flying from the UK via Stockholm, is 90kms from Salen. From Mora, you can catch an airport transfer service or regular bus to the resort. Alternatively, travel up from Stockholm by train to Mora and then by bus to Salen.
