Ski and Snowboarding Information for Samnaun, Switzerland

Samnaun ski resort is near to and linked with the Austrian ski resort of Ischgl, creating the most extensive set of runs in the eastern Alps, at 200kms. There are 42 ski lifts that cover the wide range of beginner to expert slopes, and snowboarders are well catered for, with an excellent fun park and challenging runs in Ischgl.

Samnaun is loaded with duty-free shops, a feature which is more important than the skiing for many visitors. There are a whopping 60 duty-free shops in total, offering a wide range of merchandise. There are 2,500 beds in Samnaun, located in four-star slope-side hotel/resorts and private apartments.

The region's 200kms of pistes are divided into 15 per cent for beginners; 65 per cent for intermediates; and 20 per cent for advanced skiers. There are 15 ski lifts at Samnaun (42 in the region), including the world's largest cable car. The longest run is six kilometres and there are 15kms of cross-country trails.

Other winter activities and facilities include: the Boarders' Paradise, one of Europe's largest fun parks; 40kms of walking trails; ice-skating (natural); paragliding; and tobogganing (two runs). Après-ski is lively and, together with the duty-free shopping, is the main reason some people come here. Several bars and discos as well as live music, and a theatre make up the nightlife.

The November to May ski season at Samnaun ski resort has its best snow from early February to mid-March and its cheapest weeks are pre-Christmas holidays, post-New Year celebrations and from mid-March.

Lying nearer to Innsbruck Airport in Austria, Samnaun ski resort is most quickly and conveniently reached by flying to Innsbruck and hiring a car.
