Ski and Snowboarding Information for Sedrun, Switzerland

The resort of Sedrun Disentis is steeped in history and is well known in this part of Switzerland for its Romansh influence and traditions. Close to the source of the Rhine River, the resort is an interesting stop on the famous Glacier Express.

The resort itself sits at an elevation of between 1,158m and 1,402m and is surrounded by rugged terrain, making it a challenging resort in terms of off-piste and cross-country. About 10,300 beds cater for everyone, especially the budget-minded, with the resort being one of the cheapest in the region. Some interesting attractions include the folk museum as well as the ancient monastery built around the 8th century.

The huge finger-like slopes that head down towards the Rhine offer 110kms of groomed as well as off-piste runs. Intermediates are well looked after here with 50 per cent of runs being suitable for them. There are challenging runs both off-piste and cross-country for advanced skiers and snowboarders alike, with an additional 35kms of cross-country available at Sedrun Disentis.

Snowboarders also get a half-pipe at the resort, which has a total of 22 lifts servicing the area. These consist of one cable car, seven chairlifts and 14 surface drags, with a total uplift capacity of 26,600 skiers per hour and a top elevation of 2,920m.

Sedrun Disentis has a range of alternative pastimes away from the slopes, which include leisure facilities as well as non-ski alternatives. Some of the activities on offer are curling, ice-skating, indoor swimming, sleigh riding, high altitude ski tours and relaxing snow golf. If it’s food or drink you want, head for one of the attractive and cosy restaurants or bars at the resort, offering traditional cuisine with a mix of flavours from Germany, Switzerland and the local Romansh culture.

The season here runs from December to April and the resort has a penchant for good snow cover due to the altitude. Cheap deals on accommodation are available throughout the season with special offers during low season.

Zürich International Airport is located just three hours’ drive to the resort. A train service is also available from Zürich connecting to the resort. Alternatively, catch the Eurostar from London to Paris and travel via the overnight train to Chur, which is situated on the world famous Glacier Express line. Sedrun Disentis sits on this route just 1 hour, 30 minutes away.
