Ski and Snowboarding Information for Serre, France

Lying between Grenoble and Turin in the southern Alps, Serre - Chevalier is a huge ski resort with 250kms of prepared snowboard and ski runs. The resort is set amid striking mountain scenery, with some challenging off-piste terrain and abundant sunshine.

There are 13 villages under the Serre - Chevalier umbrella, of which Chantemerle, Villeneuve and Le Monetier are the main ones. The villages’ combined lodgings amount to 30,000 beds in hotels, chalets and apartments, which are both modern and traditional. Facilities and services are top rate.

Serre - Chevalier ski resort has a staggering 250kms of ski runs over 120 slopes with varying difficulties; the longest ruin is 6.8kms. Runs vary in difficulty, with 21 slopes for beginners, 32 for intermediates, 54 for upper-intermediates and 13 for experts. Seventy-four lifts with a capacity of 76,500 people per hour provide access. Snowboarders have some superb off-piste powder and there are also 45kms of cross-country trails.

Other winter activities and facilities include: snowshoeing; natural ice-skating; sledding; ice-driving car school; paragliding; horseback riding and quad biking. There is also indoor swimming, hot water baths, a sauna and an ice cave. There is plenty of après-ski entertainment from Serre - Chevalier’s hundreds of cafés, restaurants, bars and discos.

The December to May ski season at Serre - Chevalier ski resort has good snow conditions throughout and particularly so in February, while special deals can be had in early December.

The most practical way to get to Serre - Chevalier is to fly to Turin-Casselle Airport and take a train transfer to Oulx, from where buses go to the resort. Travelling from the airport by hire car is more convenient.
