Located in the southwestern Alps, not far from Turin, Sestriere is a sophisticated and modern ski resort with access to 400kms of excellent snowboard and ski terrain. Host to the 1997 Alpine World Championships, Sestriere has varied slopes, lots of sun and a good snow record.
Sestriere is a purpose-built resort with an array of facilities and shopping opportunities. Additionally, there are over 3,000 beds on offer in hotels and private residences. Childcare in Sestriere and the surrounding villages is excellent, making for a family-friendly resort.
One hundred forty-six slopes run over 400kms of well prepared terrain, with 29 per cent of runs suited to beginners, 50 per cent for intermediates and 21 per cent for advanced and expert snowboarders and skiers, while the longest run is five kilometres. Ninety-two lifts operate over all pistes and have a capacity of 70,900 people per hour. Additionally, there are 15kms of cross-country trails.
An excellent snowboard park with half-pipe is available, and other winter activities and facilities at Sestriere include: ice-skating, paragliding, heli-skiing, Alpine guided tours and sledding. There is also a fitness centre, sauna, squash and an array of other indoor sports. Après-ski in Sestriere is vibrant, with dozens of bars and restaurants.
The December to April ski season has a good snow record throughout, particularly in February, and there are special offers around mid-December and towards the season’s end.
Sestriere ski resort is conveniently located near to Turin, which has an international airport with a rail terminal. Trains go to Oulx (near Sestriere) from where buses and taxis go to the resort. Car hire is even more convenient.
