Ski and Snowboarding Information for Solden Otztal-Arena, Austria

The four skiing areas that make up the Solden Otztal-Arena - Solden, HochSolden, Zwieselstein and Vent - offer concentrated winter skiing and snowboarding, as well as summer skiing on the nearby Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glaciers. With a state-of-the-art infrastructure and lift systems, as well as 100 per cent snow guarantee, the Solden Otztal-Arena is a great destination.

The main village of Solden is located 1,377m above sea level and boasts many shops and sporting facilities. An excellent public transport system connects with the ski lifts of Solden Otztal-Arena. There is a wide and varied range of accommodation with 10,500 beds available in hotels, guesthouses and apartments.

Solden Otztal-Arena has 150kms of manicured slopes, and a longest run of 12.8kms. The skiing is geared mainly towards intermediate and more advanced skiers. Thirty-four lifts can handle 67,000 skiers per hour. The snowboarding fun park offers a six-metre rainbow, kinked rail, double-kinked rail, seven-metre straight rail, 12-metre gondola rainbow rail, 12-metre spine, and a 14x9-metre wall-ride. Cross-country skiing is also popular at the resort.

Other activities and facilities include: a five-kilometre illuminated toboggan run; paragliding; snow tubing; snowshoe hiking; horse-drawn sleigh rides; natural ice-rink; 30kms of cleared walking paths and a sports complex. Additionally, Freizeit Arena Water World features waterslides, indoor swimming pools, saunas, a solarium, a cinema and a sports hall for ball games. Nightlife in the resorts is lively, with a variety of bars and discos concentrated mainly in the villages of Solden and Vent.

The long ski season begins in December and ends in May, with cheaper rates offered in mid-December, mid-January and towards the end of the season.

The easiest and most practical way to get to the Solden Otztal-Arena ski resort is to fly to Munich and take a train and then bus to the resort. Hiring a car from Munich is a popular option for many, as there are some scenic roads along the way.
