The villages of Soldeu and El-Tarter, in north eastern Andorra, form the ski resort complex. This area offers a variety of terrain, from above the tree-line to gladed runs. Soldeu-El-Tarter’s 86kms of pistes are mainly geared for beginners and intermediate skiers, and there is also plentiful off-slope tree skiing.
Both villages offer over 1,500 beds in apartments and hotels, while luxury accommodation is available in the nearby village of Procasa. Soldeu has an exciting après-ski and nightlife and the holiday atmosphere in both towns is one of its draw cards.
There are 52 pisted runs totalling 86kms in length at the Soldeu-El-Tarter ski resort. The longest single run is 8.2kms and slopes are divided into beginner, intermediate, and advanced difficulty, with a ratio of 56 per cent, 25 per cent, and 19 per cent, respectively. Thirty-two lifts can lift up to 45,000 skiers per hour. There are 7kms of cross-country trails in Soldeu and 5kms in El-Tarter.
Other winter activities include: mountaineering; heliskiing; ice skating (artificial); paragliding; hang-gliding; mono-skiing; indoor swimming (one public, one hotel pool); a sports centre; and saunas. Snowboarders are also well provided for, with a specialist park, featuring a half-pipe; snowboarding is also available on all pistes. There are many cafés and restaurants at Soldeu-El-Tarter and the nightlife is vibrant with several bars and discos.
The December-April ski season has cheaper special offers at the start and end of the season and in mid-January, while the best snow can be had from February to March.
There is a choice of airports, Toulouse (France), or Barcelona (Spain), with transfer times slightly quicker at the former. Due to the lack of a rail network in Andorra, entry is by road, and the most convenient way of transfer is by hire car. Alternatively, Novatel have regular scheduled bus departures from both airports.
