Ski and Snowboarding Information for Storlien, Sweden

Storlien ski resort sits close to the Norwegian border and is a classic winter wonderland ski location, set among splendid scenery and surrounded by untouched natural beauty. The resort caters for all ski levels and provides the perfect romantic setting for non-skiers visiting the resort also.

Home to the Swedish Royal family’s winter chalet, Storlien resort offers traditional timber framed buildings, fantastic skiing for all abilities and a refreshing change from the usual larger resorts. The village has some suitably lively après-ski facilities, plus charming accommodation options and a ski school with tuition for everyone from the novice to the expert.

All abilities are catered for on the slopes at Storlien, with 20 well groomed slopes offering four green, two blue, eight red and three black runs. There is a total vertical drop of 190m at the resort, which sits at 640m and has a top elevation of 840m.

The longest downhill slope measures 1.5kms and the resort offers a further 32kms of prepared cross-country runs, plus many kilometres more of unprepared, marked runs. There are eight lifts servicing this resort, including five T-bars and three platters, ushering a total of 6,000 skiers per hour up the slopes. A commendable ski school is also on offer, with tuition suitable for all abilities and levels.

If the excitement of the slopes gets to be too much, there is also a range of non-ski alternatives and leisure facilities available at the resort. These include typical snow and winter activities, such as: ski tours, snowmobiles, mountaineering, snowshoe tours, dog-sledding, reindeer sleigh rides and ice-fishing. There are also saunas and indoor swimming facilities available for those who choose to simply relax after a hard day’s skiing. Two discos and four bars, plus theme parties are on hand for those who want to stay up late.

The season starts in late November and runs until early May, with good snow conditions for this part of Sweden. The best times price-wise are from January 2 to mid-February and mid-April to May.

Storlien ski resort is 70kms from the nearest international airport at Trondheim in Norway, with a train service available from the airport to the village. Alternatively, catch a plane to Östersund in Sweden via Stockholm and transfer from there via Skibus to the resort.
