Nestled under the imposing and stunning Mount Hood, Timberline Lodge has the longest ski season in North America and is world renowned for its fabulous summer skiing. There are two terrain parks here for amateur and professional level snowboarders and several competitions throughout the season.
There is a ski/sports shop and rental outlet, a snowboard and ski school offering lessons for children, and childcare facilities (limited for non-skiers) at Timberline; while the bulk of the services and facilities can be found at the resort town of Hood River. Accommodation at the resort is in the grand Timberline Lodge and in scores of bed-and-breakfasts and hotels in Hood River.
Timberline ski resort has 32 pistes that are divided into 30 per cent for beginners, 50 per cent for intermediates and 20 per cent for advance snowboarders and skiers. Six chairlifts - including the Stormin' Norman, high-speed quad chairlift (providing access to the terrain parks) – have an hourly capacity for 7,800 people and supply all pistes, the longest of which is 2.8kms.
Timberline has no groomed cross-country skiing, but nearby Mount Hood Meadows has 15kms of trails, and the National Forest has a further 200kms. Other winter activities and facilities include: telemarking, snow tubing, snowshoeing, a snow-skate park, night skiing and mountaineering. There is also a pool, sauna, hydro-spa and jacuzzi in the Timberline Lodge.
Timberline ski resort is open almost every day of the year, with peak times from November 25 to 28, December 26 to January 2, and January 17 and February 21, and weekends in January and February. The most practical travel option for getting to Timberline resort is to take a flight to Portland International Airport and transfer to the resort by shuttle bus.
