Located near the Swiss border and part of the Espace Killy ski region, Val D’Isere is one of the most famous names in ski resorts and its 140 slopes cover a huge area. This high altitude snowboard and ski resort also offers good cross-country and an exciting après-ski scene.
Located at 1,850m above sea level, Val D’Isere is not short on services and has comprehensive facilities and shopping, including pharmacies, banks, ski/sports shops and beauty salons. Accommodation is provided by hotels, pensions and self-catering apartments, and there are additional beds in La Daille and Le Fornet.
Val D’Isere’s 140 slopes consist of 22 beginner slopes, 69 intermediate, 34 advanced and 15 expert runs, as well as some off-piste powder; the longest run (La Verte) is 5.5kms. A system of 97 lifts can carry up to 72,000 skiers and snowboarders per hour to all pistes and, in addition, there are 44kms of cross-country trails.
Other winter activities and facilities at Val D’Isere ski resort include: heli-skiing, hiking, natural ice-skating, mono-skiing, paragliding, tobogganing, sleigh riding and snow scooting. There are also three fitness centres and indoor swimming. Folklore evenings, bars and discos offer a variety of après-ski activities.
The late November to early May ski season has its best snow in February and cheaper weeks in early January and late April; children under five and adults over 75 ski for free.
Access to Val D’Isere is best achieved by taking a return flight to Geneva and catching one of the Skibuses that leave the airport throughout the day, or by hiring a car.
