Once a humble farming community, Valloire is now a bustling ski resort sitting between the Italian border and the famed Three Valleys ski region and boasting 150kms of varied pistes across high altitude terrain.
Valloire is a friendly and affordable resort village and is full of charm and atmosphere, reflected in its traditional architecture and winding alleys. Thousands of beds are available in hotel/resorts, traditional chalets and pensions, and there are plenty of shops.
Valloire’s 150kms of well groomed snowboard and ski runs are divided into 55 per cent beginner slopes, 37 per cent intermediate, and eight per cent advanced and expert; additionally, there is also some challenging off-piste powder. An array of chairlifts and draglifts provide access to the slopes for 39,000 people per hour and, in addition, there are 25kms of cross-country trails.
Other winter activities and facilities available at Valloire ski resort include ice-skating, telemarking, mono-skiing, snowshoeing and paragliding, as well as a sports centre and bowling. Twenty restaurants, both on and off the slopes, provide sustenance, while 20 bars and two discos ensure a lively and entertaining après-ski.
The November to May ski season at Valloire has its best snow conditions in early March, while the lowest rates are in early/mid-December, and towards the end of April.
Most travellers fly to either Lyon or Geneva and take the Skibus or train to Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne, and then a bus from there. For a quicker transfer time, you’ll have to hire a car.
