Ski and Snowboarding Information for Vengen, Switzerland

Wengen is blessed with one of the most beautiful backdrops of any resort in the world, nestling between the Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau mountains in the spectacular natural surroundings of the Lauterbrunnen Valley.

Home of the world renowned Lauberhorn World Cup downhill course, the resort sits high up at an excellent vantage point which affords great snow coverage and superb sunshine. The 5,500 beds provide excellent accommodation, mainly in traditional chalets, while the resort’s magical ambience is felt throughout the numerous bars, restaurants and entertainment spots.

There are 98kms of runs at the resort of Wengen, mainly suiting intermediate skiers, who receive 50 per cent of runs. Beginners get 30 per cent, while advanced skiers can enjoy 20 per cent. The Jungfrau region consists of a number of resorts, all accessible from Wengen, with a total of 213kms of ski runs – the longest being 16kms. A total of 23 lifts service the resort, with 42 in the whole region transporting 42,000 skiers per hour. Seventeen kilometres of cross-country trails can be accessed at the nearby resort of Lauterbrunnen, while two schools provide an ample 100 instructors for ski and snowboard tuition.

Due to the resort’s nature, the après-ski facilities and activities are a relaxed affair, with lively evenings not the main focus of the resort. However, the restaurants, bars, cafés and discos offer quality entertainment, while the more cultured visitors may find an escape in the many folklore and concert evenings at Wengen. Non-ski activities include: natural ice-skating, mountaineering, snowshoeing, paragliding and tobogganing, with night skiing events also available.

The season here runs from December to April and the resort has great conditions throughout the season, due to its elevation.

To arrive at Wengen, fly to Berne-Belp Airport, which is one hour from the resort by car, or two hours by rail. Hire a vehicle or travel by train and connect with a bus service to the resort. Alternatively, catch the overnight train to Berne from Paris, after travelling to France via the Eurostar service.
