Verbier has 120kms of great downhill runs over 70 slopes, with a total of 410kms of runs in the region. All skiers are catered for, with sweeping boulevards for leisurely cruising as well as abundant terrain for the snowboarder. Thiry-two per cent of runs are suitable for beginners, 42 per cent for intermediates and 26 per cent for the advanced. The resort is lift-connected to the Four Vallees area by 100 lifts featuring the Jumbo cable car – the largest in the country, with a capacity for 150 skiers.
The total number of lifts at the resort is 38, with the highest elevation being 3,330m, and there is an uplift capacity of 41,328 skiers per hour. The vertical drop here is 1,830m, with the longest drop in the region being 2,509m. There are an additional 20kms of cross-country trails, plus some awesome snowboard facilities, including two snowboard parks and an excellent snowboard school at the sports complex. Four schools teach every kind of snow sport.
There are restaurants serving all types of international cuisine as well as traditional Swiss dishes. Classical concert halls keep this wonderful musical tradition alive, while bars and discos accommodate the night dwellers in style. A huge sports centre with everything from snowboard to extreme sports tuition, plus activities such as helicopter skiing, mountaineering, hang-gliding and torchlight descents are also available at Verbier.
The Verbier season runs from late November to April and offers great snow and sunny conditions due to the altitude of the resort.
Geneva International Airport is just 1 hour, 30 minutes from Verbier and is accessed by connecting train and bus service via the small town of Martigny. Alternatively, travel by rail to Geneva via the Eurostar and high-speed TGV before again connecting to the resort by rail and bus.
