Voss ski resort is located an hour from the city of Bergen, in the heart of Norway’s fjord country, between the Sogne and Hardanger fjords. Uncrowded slopes and varied snowboarding and skiing along Voss’s 40kms of terrain, as well as an exciting après-ski, make Voss an appealing winter destination.
With its stunning location on the edge of a lake, the traditional mountain town of Voss retains part of its past in its old smoking houses and has excellent, modern facilities and a wide selection of eateries. Thousands of beds are available for a range of budgets in hotels, mountain lodges, pensions, apartments and camping cabins.
Voss ski resort only has 40kms of pistes but there is a run here for every skill level, with nine per cent suitable for beginners, 64 per cent for intermediates and advanced snowboarders and skiers, and 27 per cent for experts; the longest run is six kilometres. All slopes are connected by 10 lift systems. Additionally, there is some challenging off-piste and 60kms of cross-country tracks.
Other winter activities and facilities at Voss ski resort include: telemarking, ice-skating, snowshoe hiking, ice-fishing and paragliding. Bowling, squash, swimming, a sauna, fitness centre and a folklore museum make up the indoor events. The nightlife is lively, but not excessive, and there are several bars and discos to choose from.
The November to May ski season at Voss ski resort has its best snow conditions from early February to early March. Most people fly to the nearby major city of Bergen and take a bus to the resort from there. Oslo-bound trains also go from Bergen.
