Canyons ski resort is Utah’s largest ski and snowboard resort and is located near the historic town of Park City. Snowboarders are especially taken care of here, with a specially developed park, as well as plenty of off-piste and half-pipes. Red Hawk Terrain Park boasts natural half-pipes and 18-Acre Snow Park has more than 30 features.
The century-old mining town of Park City is very European-like in appeal and provides the bulk of the accommodation, facilities and shopping. Accommodation is in hotels, motels, lodges and condos in Park City; while the slope-side Grand Summit Resort Hotel is a luxury establishment with an array of amenities and facilities.
There are 134 slopes at Canyons ski resort; they are divided into 14 per cent for beginners, 44 per cent for intermediates, and 42 per cent for advanced and expert snowboarders and skiers. Sixteen lifts provide access to the pistes, the longest of which is four kilometres. Additionally, there are 20kms of track and skate skiing, and another 56kms nearby.
Other winter activities and facilities at Canyons include: ski jumping; luge and bobsled at the Utah Olympic Park; guided snowmobile, snowshoe and dogsled tours; and ballooning. For après-ski, there are three on-mountain lodges for dining, while Main street in Park City has many of the best restaurants and nightlife of any ski town.
The November to March ski season at Canyons has its best natural conditions in February, while almost the entire ski domain is backed-up by snow cannons. The most practical travel option for getting to Canyons ski resort is to fly to Salt Lake City International Airport and take a shuttle bus transfer; a free bus is available for transfer between the resort and Park City.
